Te Kopi Wildlife Sanctuary Estates
Pelorus Sound, Marlborough, New Zealand
Kokowhai Bay is a large, but totally private bay. The 150 hectare (370 acre) property known as St Kilda is set in an immense valley reaching from the foreshore to the heights of Turner (Kokowhai) Peak.
Gaze back upon the land from the jetty and everything that you see is part of the property. In front of you, beyond the safe anchorage of Kokowhai Bay, lies the rugged splendor of Admiralty Bay with dramatic D’Urville Island (Rangitoto ki te Tonga) as backdrop.
St Kilda is endowed with an excellent supply of fresh water. Several water courses track down different sides of the valley before joining to form the stream that emerges at the jetty. Local maori people have commented to us that St Kilda possesses a special "wairua" or spirit, and this seems to be one of the best ways of explaining the property. Visiting St Kilda in Kokowhai Bay is a memorable experience. The bay hosts a virtually complete eco-system in itself. In this spectacular marine environment, Kokowhai Bay is a significant part of the greater Admiralty Bay system that merges with Cook Strait.
Walkways have been constructed to allow access around the property. The circumnavigation includes climbing the 2,300 ft peak that crowns the property and would be expected to take around half a day. It features views not only to French Pass and the northern Cook Strait islands but into the Pelorus Sound as well. The Kokowhai Valley walk is undoubtedly one of the finest private walks in the country.
Because of its welcoming nature and total privacy, we believe this property can also be considered as a viable tourism proposition for an experienced tourism operator or investor. The property lends itself to the recuperation of mind and body, and makes an ideal retreat.
Expressions of interest in respect of St Kilda are welcomed.
